Some more things that we might discuss

Ok, so the stories of Crazy's Fake Boyfriend are totally boring. Let's move on to something more exciting. I suggest, Truth or Dare.

Umm. So Dr. Crazy, truth or dare?

Anonymous said...

p.s. All dares require photographic proof.

Anonymous said...

um. i'm just going to watch one of ya'll do something stupid.

Nik said...

Ack. I'm almost out of battery power! And wine! Um. Crazy. Truth: In what city is your dream job?

Anonymous said...

OK, people. You need to step up. I know all the truths.

Anonymous said...

oooh nik asks a good question. I was going to ask her if she ever uhh I don't know...made out with a woman.

Nik said...

OK. Dare. Post the cities in which you live for one second. And then take the comment down.

Anonymous said...

dude, nik is GOOD at this game!

Dr. Crazy and Dr. Medusa said...

I also take truth, though Crazy is trying to slink off in the middle of the game to "go to sleep" (aka call Fake Boyfriend), leaving me to play the game alone.

Marcelle Proust said...

What about playing drinking games instead?

Dr. Crazy and Dr. Medusa said...

Dream Job: Seriously would be 'Chicago, even though the weather is often for shit.

Have I ever made out with awoman? Kind of.

Cities in which we live for moment? Medusa will not agree. Thus, you will have to be in suspense

i might be already kinda drunken

What? I will agree. Crowded American City.

Nik said...

Yeah. I was already playing the drinking game. I think I won.
Anastasia! Thanks for the compliment. Actually, you've given me a great idea for a conference paper. Or just an essay. Whatever. Truth or Dare is my one talent.
Medusa. I do love Chicago.

"Kind of" means she totally has, but only for the purposes of the reality tv for film documentary,"Futon: An American Tragedy," in which she has full-on lesbian sex. Hee!

Truth? Dare? Drunk people? Hello????

Marcelle Proust said...

OK, sorry, I got here late. Looks like you played the drinking games already. I'll have to get some wine and catch up.

CAC is so not an airport. OK. Battery dead. Wine gone. I hope there's another happy hour soon. See you guys on your regular blog stations.

Marcelle Proust said...

Q. finished the wine. There is only chardonnay now, which I don't like.

Dr. Crazy and Dr. Medusa said...

Hey Crazy. Truth: Did you ever want to have sex with the Fox?

Dr. Crazy and Dr. Medusa said...

Hi, New Kid. Name the truth!

Anonymous said...

no making out with women for me, either.

Anonymous said...

There's only one place I think of as Puritan town, but I stereotype the Puritans.

And who is the Fox?

Anyone ever want to have sex with a grad professor? Me, no, because the two most attractive of them looked like a Keebler elf and a homeless guy. (If you DID have sex with a prof, well, let us know!)

Marcelle Proust said...

Academic quibbling: by "want to have sex," NK, do you mean more "thought was hot" or "made actual efforts to act on desires"? The first, yes, second, no.

Anonymous said...

okay, grad professor...I have to argree with proust here...first, yes, second no. thought was hot, for sure. made moves on, not so much. so not me.

But I did once perform a sexual act in a professor's office. I mean, you know, depending on what is is.

Anonymous said...

I got pregnant in a professors house. :)

Anonymous said...

1) That one Puritan town is probably the one.

2) Did I want to have sex with a prof when I was a grad student? Only one and he was gay. He did take me out to dinner as a "thank you" for ta'ing for him, though, and there was "I like to go to this restaurant and pretend I am straight" conversation and a long hug and slightly lingering kiss goodbye thing that happened with him. And maybe, just maybe, I still have sex dreams about him.

3) Have I slept with a professor since? Yes. And yes. And . . .dare?

at least the southeast is a dry heat. the humidity is killing me. and the roaches. I mean, damn.

Marcelle Proust said...

Professors. Such exciting lives their/our spaces lead. Why is it the spaces and not us?

Anonymous said...

marcelle: I was actually thinking "thought was hot," but hey, making moves would be a cool story. The profs of my sexual orientation were kind of lacking in my grad program! (though a woman the year before me had the traditional affair with our scary demographic historian, who later went on to get a new asst. prof. pregnant and marry her. Best to stay out of it all!)

Anonymous said...

i keep laughing out loud and it wakes poor thumper up.

Anonymous said...

Wow, I've never done anything sexual in a prof's office, not even my own! How sad.

so dr. m, the professors you've slept with - your own, or not? B/c (nlLD)H worked in the same dept as me, so I guess that counts as sleeping with a professor...

Marcelle Proust said...

I know of many prof-grad affairs & marriages, but somehow that never appealed to me. Too determined on having space between personal & professional lives, I suppose; & the potential for mess just seemed too great to approach my hot prof. Even though this person might well have been approachable--eventually did take up with a student.

Anonymous said...

humidity. roaches. UGH. Did I mention it's gorgeous here? (hey, I gotta rub in the good things in my life that I can.)

and LSAT, definitely - a week from tomorrow (FUCK!). Law school - maybe, probably, possibly? Partly depends on if I get good LSATs --> money from schools. Depends on if I get my act together to apply for other stuff (jobs) and it works out. I am kind of sick of academia right now, though.

Anonymous said...

my hot prof is all married with kids and I really like his wife so it's really just a...yeah, he's pretty hot thing. I agree too messy and one needs space btwn personal and professional

NK, do you really like the idea of the law or is it that thing humanities people do when they need to make money? One of the Guermantes daughters went to law school when I went to grad school. I looked at her textbooks and decided if it ever came to that I'd be better off learning to code.

NK:

The profs I have slept with:

1. The Grand He: very much an important person in my field but never my professor (This, I fear, is almost worse.)

2. Narcissistic String Theory Guy: in a totally different field and not at any university with which I have been associated

3. Do undergraduate TA's (in chemistry! and geology! oh. dear. holy. god.) count?

Anonymous said...

hippies are good. I like hippies. yeah, we'd only be there for 2 years. we'd have to consider an apartment.

Sisyphus said...

NK, why would you want to go back to school after the long long slog of grad school?

And as for the profs question: I have had many an academic crush, and a few drool-worthy crushes, but the actual having a fling or affair with a prof has always seemed ... skeevy. At least with the people who did it here.

On the other hand, last fall I met the absolute hottest young prof in another dept. Sigh. But, of course, he was gay.

Anonymous said...

i only know one person who ever did it with a prof (married him actually, after he left his wife) and it was all seriously skeevy.

Anonymous said...

marcelle, I actually do like the idea of the law - lots of reading, research, writing, and I do legal history stuff anyway. All my careers skills tests rate lawyer way up there. ;-) It is the cliched thing to do when soured on academia, though, so that makes me a little unsure. I'm not sure I'd make much money either b/c I'm interested in environmental & American Indian law, and can see going into public interest stuff.

I'd do much better with law than with code. I know Latin already, for instance.

Marcelle Proust said...

OMG, I forgot about the TA when I was an undergrad. But I do that a lot. Forget people I slept with, I mean. There was this halcyon period in the 70s that you kids are probably too young to have taken advantage of, before AIDS . . .

Anonymous said...

marcelle you are fucking hilarious. it may be the wine but seriously.

nk, it is totally the cliched thing to do but given your interests. american indian stuff? cool!

Marcelle Proust said...

Anastasia, I am serious!

Anonymous said...

hee, undergrad TAs! I actually did end up having a hot hook-up with my undergrad astronomy TA. Damn, he was cute.

I think medieval historians (men) are just not that attractive - there's only one I can think of that I'd go for (granted, I haven't met all of them). The lit people are frequently hot, though. I nearly hooked up with one of them, but he was about an inch shorter than me, and in the end that was a deal-breaker.

Anonymous said...

oh I know, you're still cracking me up

Sisyphus said...

Dude, one of the profs here had an affair with his grad student, she got pregnant, and kept the baby. Claimed it was "a long-distance boyfriend's" she was raising alone. Then I got here and was at a Chmas party thinking, why is that toddler running after Prof ____ and calling him daddy?

It put a serious skeeve on the whole idea.

Fellow grad students, however, totally different thing.

Anonymous said...

"But I do that a lot. Forget people I slept with, I mean."

Comrade. Thank god. :=)

Marcelle Proust said...

Dr Medusa: yeah, well. Number? I always say something like [some number] and then start saying oh but then there was that time . . . and then . . . and OMG, that one!

Sisyphus: fellow grad students seems like it should be a completely different thing, but down the road a few years, it may not be. At least stay out of your own department.

Anonymous said...

sisyphus, because I am so sick of academia that I'd love to change fields and law school seems like a good way? and that I am enough of an academic that I assume going back to school is the answer to all problems? ;-) Plus, law is more portable for if/when (nlLD)H wants to move elsewhere (which he does, at some point). (He likes the city, just sees the job as a stepping stone to elsewhere, like Yale or something!) (which does make sense, given his field.)

Marcelle Proust said...

Hey, I think I was comment #69!!!

i'm dying to know what ldh does...

Then I got here and was at a Chmas party thinking, why is that toddler running after Prof ____ and calling him daddy?

Eww, very skeevy!

Anonymous said...

(nlLD)H is a librarian - western US history stuff.

(He is also currently muy pissed at me. I fucked up our money. Ooops. But I didn't just tell you all that.)

Hey lovely hostesses, can I ask you to delete the name of my city in the comments/the comments themselves? Not like regular readers don't know where I am, but just to be safe, and since I'm not commenting with a Blogger account I can't delete them myself. Danke!

StyleyGeek said...

This thread is so teasing now that all the interesting comments are deleted! Assuming, that is, that they are deleted because they were interesting, rather than because an army of spambots invaded your party.

Perhaps I will console myself with the belief that you deleted a whole lot of boring comments about what people had for dinner, just so that later readers would think you were all more interesting than you really are.

k, i thought the party was tonight! i missed all the fun and juicy stories, dammit!
